'Royal Burgundy' ( Currier McEwen, R. 1988) Seedling T4 80/62. JI (3 F. tet.), 34" (86 cm), Early midseason to late bloom. Standards dark purple (RHS 77A); purple violet (80C) styles tipped darker (80A); Falls red violet (darker than 80A) with velvety sheen, rich cadmium orange (23B) signal. T3 77/8(1): ((73/7, Hirao seed x unknown) x (( 'Garden Caprice' x seedling) x ("Agiha" x 'Shiki-No-Hajime'))) X T1 76/16P: ( 'Mitsu Zakura' x 'Simple Elegance'). From AIS Bulletin #272 January 1989 Introducing ROYAL BURGUNDY: T4 80/62: Tetraploid, 3 falls, EM-LM. Large 10" single flowers on well branched 34" scapes. Rich reddish purple falls (80A) with darker red standards (77A) and lighter styles (80C) tipped (80A). Striking cadium orange (23B) signals. A beautiful wine red with large flowers, velvety sheen and great substance. $30. Seaways Gardens.
