1980, McEwen

'Muffled Drums' ( Currier McEwen, R. 1980) Sdlg. J74/7F. JI (3 F. diploid), 36" (91 cm), Midseason to late bloom and rebloom. Standards dark red purple (RHS 77A); dark violet (83B) style arms; Falls rich red purple (78A) with very dark (77A) veins and lighter (78D) edge; lemon yellow (14C) signal. 72/39(4): ( 'Garden Caprice' x 'Garden Caprice') x 'Frostbound'. McEwen 1980. Honorable Mention 1982.

From AIS Bulletin #238 July 1980 Introducing MUFFLED DRUMS (74/7F): Diploid, 36", EM and reblooms. Single 7" flowers with 4" round, semi-flaring falls. Color is rich red-purple with very dark veins and light edging. Velvety and fine parent. (Garden Caprice x self) X Frostbound. $20.00. Currier McEwen.
