'Iapetus' ( Sterling Innerst, R. 1987) Sdlg. 1540-2. JI (6 F.), 34" (86 cm), Midseason bloom. Ruffled light ground, sanded and veined deep blue violet to red violet, blue violet halo; deep red violet styles. 928-1: ("Marihiri" x 'Valiant Prince') X 'Frostbound'. Ensata Gardens 1988. Honorable Mention 1990, Award of Merit 1994, Payne Medal 1997.

From AIS Bulletin #269 April 1988 Introducing IAPETUS (lnnerst 88) JI Sdlg. 1540-2. Very large double blooms of ruffled, overlapping petals. Light ground sanded and distinctly veined deep blue-violet shading to red-violet at the petal edges; blue-violet halo, deep red-violet styles and petaloids. Very, very nice. $35.00. Sterling Innerst.
