1959, Marx

'Blue Gentian' (Walter Marx, R. 1958) Seedling 56-120. JI (double), 30" (76 cm), Late bloom. Deep blue with white veins in central portion. From two Higo seedlings. Marx 1959.

From Marx Gardens catalog, 1962: BLUE GENTIAN (Marx 1959) Each $5.00. Like one of the Gentians for which it was named, this deep velvety blue iris might be called the blue counterpart of Heather Red because it is so similar in all respects except color. Flowers measure 7 to 8 inches across and hold their intense color unusually well even in hot weather. Very late. 30 inches. Picture page 5.
