From Wing Seed catalog, 1919: BLUE BOY - (Foster.) New. A vigorous free-flowering new hybrid. Coloring distinct. S. violet; F. velvety purplish-violet; beard blue; flowers medium. Eighteen inches. 75c.
From Adamgrove catalog, 1997: BLUE BOY (Foster, 1913) Mr. Foster had his tetraploids, too, and this is an important one. In the hands of Paul Cook, this variety led to SABLE and thereby to a host of other blacks. BLUE Boy itself is an unassuming deep blue-violet with almost matching beards, and not unattractive in its own right. I. aphylla derivative. $5.00
